Aries and Aquarius Friendship Compatibility

Aries and Aquarius Friendship Compatibility

Friendships between Aries and Aquarius are extremely rare, as these two are just too different to see eye to eye. While the two sun signs sit relatively closely together on the zodiac chart, they could not be further apart in terms of what is important to them and their outlook on life.

The horoscopes of these two signs give them a low compatibility rating. It takes exceptional circumstances for these two to see past their differences and become friends.

Are Aries and Aquarius Compatible as Friends?

Aries and Aquarius tend to be like chalk and cheese, which is not a recipe for a great friendship. These two only tend to form a genuine bond under exceptional circumstances, which allows these two to see past their healthy egos and realize that they are not always right (or the only one who is right).

Not only do they have very little in common, but they also tend to have little respect for the things that the other values. While Aries craves success and recognition, Aquarius seeks personal fulfillment and rarely cares what anyone thinks.

Mutual Interests

Aries and Aquarius tend to have their heads in very different spaces. Aries is ambitious for traditional success, like a good job and a great car, and they love to be at the cutting edge with the latest gadgets. They also have a deep desire to be respected and admired by the people around them.

Aquarius, on the other hand, doesn’t need anyone to validate, and they are not only not particularly interested in traditional ideas of success, but can tend to look on those things with an air of contempt. They are much more interested in finding artistic and intellectual outlets.

This means that they are unlikely to find themselves bonding over shared interests, or discovering that they think the same way during a deep conversation.

Conversations are more likely to become debates. In some cases, both parties may find these debates intellectually stimulating, and come back for more.

Aries and Aquarius are both individual spirits who don’t really feel like they need anyone else to make them complete. As a result, they can develop “me against the world mentalities” mentalities. They don’t really see why it is their responsibility to bend over backward to help someone else.

However, both signs also tend to think that consciously betraying someone else is beneath them. This gives the two a level of impersonal loyalty. They won’t betray one another, but they are not actively out there trying to be supporters and advocates.

Fun & Excitement

Aries are spontaneous adrenalin junkies that like anything that is new or challenging. They also like to put on a bit of a show and for the people around them to think of them as a bit of an adventurer.

Aquarius may think that Aries’ brand of fun is a bit ostentatious and “for the cameras”. They prefer something that is intellectually stimulating, even if it is not the kind of thing that everyone will be talking about with admiration and envy.

As a result, while these two signs are both fun-loving and believe that life is to be enjoyed, they are rarely on the same page when it comes to what constitutes that enjoyment.

Likelihood to Last

There are various reasons why two relatively incompatible people might find themselves friends. Sometimes it is those challenging friendships that can be the most important in shaping a person, and can last a lifetime.

While these kinds of connections are not unknown between Aries and Aquarius, they are not always long-lasting. This is simply because the two are so different that they can find themselves growing apart, and not invested in the friendship.

If they don’t see each other for a little while and do get together, the conversation can struggle to flow. This is because their outlooks on life and priorities are so different. They can both consider what matters to the other person to be unimportant.

Time takes its toll and with little to bind them together, the two are unlikely to remain close.

Aries and Aquarius struggle to form close bonds because they have so little in common to bind them together. They are even unlikely to share social circles as their priorities in life and the things that they look for in friends does not align.

If the two are connected, for example by familial bonds, they will be loyal out of a sense of duty. But they may actually look upon the other with a sense of contempt or pity in terms of their life choices and beliefs.

Aries and Aquarius Potential to be More Than Just Friends

They say that opposites attract, but this idea doesn’t usually extend to Aries and Aquarius.

While Aries is highly charismatic, Aquarius is usually unimpressed by the outward trappings of success that Aries values. Aquarius won’t find themselves strongly drawn in. They will also find Aries focus on themselves frustrating.

While Aquarius is highly intellectual and interesting, they rarely volunteer their own thoughts. They don’t feel the need to perform for anyone. Therefore, it often takes some coaxing to get them to come out and show just how fascinating they are.

Aries, focussed on themselves, and terrible at reading people, isn’t the person to do this for Aquarius.

Aries is also very controlling. While Aquarius is laid back when it comes to leadership, they can’t stand being boxed in or told what they should do. As a result, if they are in a relationship with Aries they can find it frustrating. And Aquarius’ rebellious streak can set off Aries’ hot temper.

While a relationship between Aries and Aquarius might be a period of intense growth for them both, as they are challenged and pushed out of their comfort zones, it is not likely to last.
